Our cyber security degree opens many career possibilities. You will study information technology, preparing you for a career in software development or the networking industry. Then you will focus on specialised units in cyber security – gaining the expertise needed to apply for specialised roles.

Learn essential skills in cyber-threat detection and risk management, including:

  • cyber security technologies (such as digital signature, public key infrastructure, virtual private networks, firewalls, intrusion detection and data encryption)
  • ethical hacking and digital forensic data collection
  • vulnerability analysis and control
  • enterprise security
  • cyber security regulation, policies and laws
  • software development
  • network design.

On successful completion of this programme, students will be able to:

  1. Apply a well-rounded and in-depth understanding of cybersecurity, drawing from key domains such as network defence, forensic investigation, ethical hacking practices, enterprise network administration, cloud protection strategies, security-focused data analytics and ICT governance.
  2. Investigate, evaluate and implement cutting-edge cybersecurity tools and techniques with independent judgement and a commitment to continuous learning, using this expertise to design practical solutions to real-world security challenges across industries like government, finance, ICT, retail, healthcare, education, media and manufacturing.
  3. Demonstrate a balanced combination of technical proficiency, critical analysis, leadership capability, project management skills and professional communication, supported by a solid grasp of the ethical standards and behavioural expectations that guide the cybersecurity profession.
  4. Contribute to IT solution design, development, and deployment in both independent and collaborative settings, maintaining a strong industry orientation and taking responsibility for ongoing skill advancement and professional growth as a lifelong learner.

Benefit from focused learning through our award-winning VU Block Model®, where interactive workshops replace traditional lectures. Study one subject at a time in small, workshop-style classes that encourage interaction and teamwork.

How this benefits you:

  • Dedicate full attention to each subject, building genuine mastery instead of surface-level knowledge across multiple programmes.
  • Attend fix duration interactive workshops for a defined number of days a week, making room for work, internships or extracurricular assignments.
  • Build stronger connections with peers and faculty, developing valuable skills in collaboration, communication and critical thinking.

With more and more companies adopting cloud services and storage, valuable data and information systems are increasingly under threat from hackers and industrial spies.

Beyond just accessing information, hackers can penetrate enterprise networks, encrypt the hard drive of computers and extort the organisation or computer owners to pay for unlocking the system.

Globally, cyber security is expected to have an annual growth of over 20% in the next five years.

Our experienced academic staff have a strong track record in cyber security research, providing you with a modern, up-to-date course.

Guest lecturers with current experience in the cyber security industry complement the academic staff to provide you with insights into the latest developments in this field.

In addition to our undergraduate and postgraduate courses, we also have strong partnerships with leading companies in the industry. These include but are not limited to AWS, Cisco, Microsoft and Oracle.

Victoria University is an academy for a multitude of certification courses from these leading industries. This means, as our students, you will have the opportunity to study certification courses taught by seasoned lecturers and research academics within the IT discipline with discounted certification examination fees.
